Hermit’s Cave in Griffith
This site is the well known complex that covers over a kilometre length of cliffs. It contains a stone walls, shelters, paths, staircases and garden enclosures that were built over a period of some thirty years by Valerio Ricetti, the hermit of Griffith. The complex was nominated to the State Heritage Register. The Conservation Management Strategy and landscape concept plan deals with the sensitive issues of vandalism management and development for tourism, as well as the urgent need for erosion control and stonework conservation. The first stage of conservation works, the stabilising and restoration of stonework of two collapsed staircases, has been successfully completed.
